Software Engineer II


We're Maps, a global team within TomTom's Location Technology Products technical unit. Our team is driven to deliver the most up-to-date, accurate and detailed maps for hundreds of millions of users around the world. You'll help people find their way in the world. In 2004, TomTom revolutionized how the world moves with the introduction of the first portable navigation device. Now, we intend to do it again by engineering the first-ever real-time map, the smartest and most useful map on the planet.
Work with a team of 3,700 unique, curious and passionate problem-solvers. Together, we'll open up a world of possibilities for car manufacturers, enterprises and developers to help people understand and get closer to the world around them.


  • Work with a team of engineers to develop high-quality software and data pipelines.
  • Participate in all phases of the project lifecycle – gathering requirements, designing solutions, building new interfaces, integration with existing architecture and systems, development, testing, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Solve complex data engineering problems, improving data quality iteratively through data-driven approaches.
  • Build scalable, highly available and resilient applications by utilizing cloud technologies, programming languages and frameworks that best suit the use cases.
  • Run, monitor and improve operational systems.

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • +3 years of software development experience in Java, and at least another modern programming language.
  • Strong Computer Science and development fundamentals, including object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, and complexity analysis.
  • Desire to learn and expand your skill set.
  • Keen interest in data.
  • Comfortable with written and verbal communication in English.

  • This position is based in Gent. Therefore, we are only able to accept candidates who already live in Belgium.
