Electrical & Control Engineer - Clinker Line Project

Job Opportunity: Electrical & Control Engineer (Project-Based Consultancy/Freelance)

As part of the GO4ZERO initiative, we are seeking a skilled Electrical & Control Engineer to join our project team on a long-term temporary basis. Your expertise will be essential in our greenfield Clinker Line project, where you'll work closely with the factory team to ensure optimal control and electrical systems. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated consultant or freelancer to make a significant impact on a crucial project.

Project Overview: Holcim's ambitious GO4ZERO initiative includes the installation of a new clinker line at the Obourg plant, which is designed to significantly enhance the production capacity and environmental sustainability of the operations. This new clinker line aims to minimize the ecological footprint by integrating state-of-the-art technology and innovative furnace designs to reduce emissions and improve thermal efficiency.

Role Description: As part of the Electrical & Control team for the new clinker line project at Obourg, the Electrical & Control Engineer will support the project under the guidance of the Lead Electrical & Control Engineer. This role involves comprehensive involvement in the setup, testing, and integration of electrical and control systems specific to the new clinker line and its associated furnace component. The role requires 100% onsite presence and will involve both office-based study and active field supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Design and Implementation: Assist in the design and implementation of electrical and control systems for the new clinker line, with a particular focus on the integration with the new furnace to enhance operational efficiencies and reduce environmental impact.
  • Installation Supervision: Help oversee the electrical installations, ensuring they meet design specifications and comply with safety and quality standards.
  • Commissioning Support: Support the commissioning of the new clinker line by participating in the testing and validation of its control systems, emphasizing the automation aspects to optimize furnace operation.
  • Collaboration and Support: Work closely with the Lead Engineer and cross-functional teams to ensure that the electrical and control solutions align with the plant's efficiency and sustainability targets.
  • Compliance and Safety: Adhere to international standards and environmental regulations, assisting in the coordination with stakeholders to facilitate timely and effective project executions.
  • Technical and Process Optimization: Contribute to the ongoing optimization of control systems and process automations, utilizing Siemens PCS7 for state-of-the-art process control.

Requirements:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Professional Expertise: Strong background in electrical engineering, with specific experience in control systems and automation within industrial settings, preferably in clinker/cement production or similar heavy industries. Expertise in implementing large-scale industrial projects like furnace installations or upgrades.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to design and integrate electrical systems using CAD software, programming and implementing control systems with PLCs, SCADA, and DCS, and understanding power distribution. Expertise in the specific processes of cement manufacturing, environmental controls for emission reduction, and quality assurance protocols are crucial.
  • Project Collaboration: Capable of working effectively within a team setting, supporting multiple project phases and adhering to project timelines.
  • Language Proficiency: Must be fluent in both French and English.
  • Mobility: Willingness to travel between sites as necessary and participate in international trips for project needs.
